I am very much a mood reader so making giant TBRs don’t usually work out well for me but given that it is October (aka Best Month) I felt pretty confident in creating a TBR that I could stick to so I decided to go for it! I decided that in the spirit of October, I’ll mostly be sticking to spooky, witchy, villain-y reads with some comfort reads thrown in for good measure.
His Hideous Heart edited by Dahlia Adler
I’ve been waiting for this anthology pretty much since it was announced. What’s more appropriate for October reading than Poe retellings?
Assorted reads by Rin Chupeco
This is a Rin Chupeco stan blog. If you hadn’t picked up on that yet, you must be new. I’ll for sure be rereading The Girl from the Well and a first-time read of its sequel, The Suffering. I’ll also probably also be rereading The Bone Witch series. Who knows, maybe this will be the month I finally bite the bullet and read book three instead of living in denial about the series being over.
Labyrinth Lost by by Zoraida Córdova
I’ve owned this forever. I’ve really wanted to read it forever. Let’s finally get this done!
Gideon the Ninth by Tasmyn Muir
Lesbian necromancers in space. Honestly? ‘Nuff said.
House Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig
A good old retelling, but make it scary. GIMME.
Because You Love to Hate Me edited by Amerie
This is one I’ve also owned for quite some time. I read the first story and then misplaced the book. I found it again recently and it seems the perfect time to get back to it.
Escape From the Isle of the Lost by Melissa de la Cruz
This is set right before the third movie and I’m not entirely sure, but it might be the final installment in the series. I love this franchise. It’s a guilty pleasure that I indulge in fully.
As I mentioned earlier this week, last month ended rough for me and this month started out in the worst way possible. I’m still trying to deal with everything and sometimes I just need to go back to old books with happy memories associated with them to pick myself back up. As such, I’ll also be rereading the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. I honestly don’t remember how far I made it when I was young but I remember being severely in love and feeling super seen as a kid with ADHD and dyslexia. I also went out earlier this week and checked out the illustrated Harry Potter books from the library. I don’t know what else I’ll add to the list but I imagine that there will be quite a few middle grade comfort reads happening this month.
Are you a mood reader or can you set a TBR and stick to it? What are you looking forward to reading this month?
