I can easily say that July 7th, 2020 is the first release date I’ve truly been hyped for this year. And it’s not for lack of books that I want to read or releases that are important to me – there have been plenty of those. I’ve just been struggling with a disconnect from reading and books in general since late last year and it’s been eating away at me.
Even with as out of the loop as I’ve been about new releases and upcoming titles, there are four books coming out tomorrow that I’m not only aware of but also dying to get my hands on. So much so that I have actually purchased books for the first time in months, possibly my first bookish purchases in the last 6 months that haven’t been pre-orders from the beginning of time. A long-standing book buying ban has been decimated. I don’t know how to fully convey my excitement to where it’s comprehensible and you can truly grasp just how big this is to me but suffice to say, it feels like a giant book party, I’m finally invited and I’m definitely gonna be dancing like mad.
Here are the books than ran off with my credit card and convinced me to put my first hold in the library in almost a year (curbside pick-up – we’re being responsible, I promise).
Unravel the Dusk • Elizabeth Lim • Goodreads
Spin the Dawn was amazing and one of my more memorable reads of 2019. An epic sewing competition AND a quest story combined with a great slow-burn romance? I obviously have to get my hands on the sequel. I’ve actually started rereading Spin the Dawn so I’m ready when this arrives at my place.
Cinderella is Dead • Kalynn Bayron • Goodreads
I love retellings. The concept for this one is really intriguing and a little dark, which I like. It’s also a retelling concept that I don’t think I’ve encountered before. Also, it’s sapphic. I’m here for literally any sapphic retelling, pretty much automatically. I cannot wait!
Girl, Serpent, Thorn • Melissa Bashardoust • Goodreads
You’re telling me I can have a bisexual MC who has a poisonous touch in a sapphic fantasy? Persian-inspired, a morally-grey princess, and a killer cover? Oh, and there’s a monster love interest? It’s like the author knows exactly what I want. Also, I’ve heard a ton of people raving about this and oh no, you’ve convinced me!
The Damned • Renée Ahdieh • Goodreads
This is another sequel that I just accepted the inevitable and purchased. While vampires aren’t really my scene, I can make an exception for Renée Ahdieh vampires. Also, from the flowery skull to the pinks and purples, I cannot think of a more “me” cover out there. At the end of the day, I’m a simple creature and if Renée Ahdieh writes it, I’m gonna read it.
So, there you have it! The four books that somehow resurrected my will to read where countless others failed. Are any of these books on your tbr? Any other July 7th releases that you’re waiting oh-so-patiently for?
Thanks for stopping by! Stay safe and find happiness ❤️ -Shon
